Wen Jiabao thinks higher educated youngsters should go to work in west or central China, says the national paper People’s Daily. When students move to these less attractive areas of the country, their college money will be completely repaid.
One million students without a job
The measures aren’t superfluous. One million students who graduated in 2008 still don’t have a job. It’s getting even tougher for them: this year six million new graduates will enter the labor market.
Because of unemployment more and more graduates settle for a job below their level. The last couple of months two thousand higher educated graduates applied for jobs as babysitter or housekeeper in the southern province Guangdong. Only three hundred actually got a job. [IB/HOP; translation AR]
