ASIS closes deal with first Russian partner

Small, but precious

The Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod (LUNN) is a small university with about 5.000 students. Nizhny Novgorod is the 4th largest city in Russia. ‘LUNN is small, but precious’, rector Zhigalev said. ‘Just like The Netherlands.’ For the rector it was the first time he visited The Netherlands.

He was accompanied by dean Olga Mironova, the contact person for ASIS. The Russian guests got a tour through the Breda building and a special guided tour through Xplora, pride of Avans. In the evening, they visited the city of Breda.

Variety

‘I love the variety of cultures and nationalities that I see at Avans and ASIS’, Zhigalev said. In Russia, exchanging knowledge and people with other countries wasn’t always natural in the past in education. ‘Teaching languages without native speakers as teachers can be difficult.’

Since this month two Russian students from LUNN study at Avans for a semester exchange. This is the first step of the cooperation. In the future, more students, teachers and projects will be exchanged between ASIS and LUNN. [LJ]
