Avansstudent verongelukt in Indonesie

De Avans School of International Studies heeft alle studenten middels onderstaande tekst op de hoogte gebracht:

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the terrible news that Sebastian Müller, our Year 3 IBMS student, was fatally injured in a motor bike accident last Friday. He was currently on semester exchange in Yogyakarta, Indonesia at our partner university Universitas Gadjah Mada. The accident took place last Friday. He was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery, but unfortunately to no avail and Sunday morning he passed away.  Nies Rijnders, Fred Cahuzak, the International Office, but especially Regine Bechler have been in close contact with his parents since the accident took place. The tragedy for the parents cannot be described as in these same days Sebastian's grandfather passed away as well.

Peter van Bragt from our International Office left Sunday evening for Indonesia to deal with all the ensuing formalities and to give support to Reuven Ayal, who is also staying at Gadjah Mada, and all the other international students who were very close to Sebastian and who stayed with him in his last hours.

There are no words to describe the sense of loss we felt when hearing this news. Life is extremely unfair when fate strikes at such a young age. Sebastian was a very amiable and sociable student, involved in his studies, in ASIS, in Avans with all the activities he undertook since his start here in Breda. We know Sebastian not only as very involved with our programme, but also as very interested in European politics and social events. He organized an excursion for all the Asian Business Students to the European Commission in Brussels last December. During his studies at Universitas Gadja Mada, he noticed a lack of presentation skills with the Indonesian students, so he organized classes for these students in order to improve these skills. The Indonesian students were even to be rewarded with a joint Gadjah Mada and Avans certificate.

An online condolence register has been opened: http://www.condoleanceregister.nl/Condoleance-Sebastian-Muller.html. We kindly ask you to write in German as much as possible, as his parents will cherish all that can be said about their only son, Sebastian.

As nearly all Year 3 students are away on exchange, we have decided to organize a special memorial service on Monday 27th August in HF003 at 09.30 hrs. In due time you will receive more information about this service, in which we would like to involve you as much as possible. We will keep you informed of the funeral arrangements. We and all fellow students will sorely miss him.

Your sincerely, also on behalf of Nies Rijnders, Dean ASIS

Robin Pereboom, Vice dean ASIS
